Why is that? New riders are the holy grail for motorcycle manufacturers. It’s the reason they spend the money they do in advertising and promotions. The goal is to attract new riders to the brand, start them off with something small, like a 250, then keep them coming back and sticking to the brand as they progress through the ranks. Question: Which retro bike shall I get?
I’m looking to buy a large displacement motorcycle similair in style to the “Universal Japanese Motorcycles” of the late 1970′s (the Kawasaki ZRX 1200 comes to mind) or perhaps one of the older, unfaired Honda Goldwings. Can anyone give me advice on which bike to pick? I want something with a lot of torque, reasonably fast and comfortable enough to tour on. Handling is not a big concern:)

Your best bet would be a Suzuki GS model. They were renowned for durability and the comfort of their seats. The better ones for touring were the 850, 1000 and 1100. The one weakness was the charging system (I believe it was the stator), but there are probably aftermarket remedies. The shaft-drive models are less likely to have been abused.
